BKCA Shotokan Karate-do Belt Grading System
A Journey from White Belt to Black Belt
The Bangladesh Karate Combat Association (BKCA) follows a structured belt grading system in Shotokan Karate-do, guiding students from beginner level to advanced martial arts proficiency.
Our grading system begins with 10th Kyu (White Belt) and progresses through the Kyu ranks to 1st Kyu (Brown Belt), followed by 1st Dan (Black Belt) upon completion of the Kyu belt levels and successful Dan grading.
Our Belt Colors and Progression
The BKCA Shotokan Karate-do grading system incorporates eight distinct belt colors:
– White Belt: Represents a beginner’s journey and a willingness to learn.
– Yellow Belt: Symbolizes growing awareness and the development of basic techniques.
– Orange Belt: Reflects progress, confidence, and improving technical skills.
– Green Belt: Represents growth, consistency, and stronger fundamentals.
– Blue Belt: Symbolizes continued development, focus, and expanding knowledge.
– Purple Belt: Reflects advancing skills, discipline, and deeper technical understanding.
– Brown Belt: Represents advanced preparation, maturity, and readiness for the black belt journey.
– Black Belt: Symbolizes dedication, perseverance, technical development, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Kyu to Dan — The Path of Progress
Students progress through the ranks from 10th Kyu to 1st Kyu, developing their techniques, discipline, physical fitness, concentration, and understanding of karate. According to the BKCA grading chart, each listed Kyu level has a training duration of four months.
The 1st Dan Black Belt marks an important milestone, not the end of learning. It represents a new stage of responsibility, continued improvement, respect, and dedication to the true spirit of karate.
At BKCA, we believe that karate is more than a martial art. It is a way to develop discipline, confidence, respect, perseverance, self-control, and practical self-defense skills.
Train with discipline. Progress with determination. Live with respect.
